Figma Weave

Last week, Figma added a feature that caught my eye 👁️: bring a Figma frame into Weave, choose which text or image layers can change, and keep the rest of your design intact.

I fiiiiinally tested it today! 🧪

My tiny experiment: have AI rewrite the supporting copy in my homepage banner while keeping the other copy, image, and layout in place.

Learning my way around was tricky. 😵‍💫 Then I hit a font issue: Weave reported that my fonts were missing. Switching to Inter font worked as a temporary fix. Even with ChatGPT’s help, I couldn’t find a documented way to upload fonts directly to Weave. So, Inter for now!

Then came the node wrangling. 🐴 Figuring out how to connect my instructions → the AI → my banner took some trial and error. 🤔

But it worked! The AI’s sentence appeared right inside my design. 🪄

My first impression: a steep learning curve for a small task. I’m more comfortable making Figma changes through chat using MCP-connected AI tools so far. 🏂

Honestly, I’m not sure the setup was worth it for this one sentence. But I’ll try it again with other designs and see whether reusing the workflow makes the effort pay off.

As a product designer, I liked choosing exactly what could change. As a first-time user, I wanted more guidance getting there.
